ADVERTISEMENT The number of passengers traveling with Hong Kong's flagship airline and its subsidiary Dragonair dropped 7.5 percent to about 1.95 million compared to the same month last year, Cathay Pacific said in a statement. Although May is traditionally one of the weaker months for business, the situation is worsened this year by a combination of factors, said Tom Owen, general manager of revenue management. "The global economic downturn continued to impact on our business, with lower numbers in the economy cabins, while the big slump in premium traffic continued unabated," Owen said in the statement. He added the swine flu also kept people from traveling. The two airliners' cargo and mail shipments also saw a significant drop of 13.3 percent year-on-year, Cathay said, as the financial turmoil continued to hurt the global air freight business and demand out of Hong Kong and mainland China. _________ On the net: Cathay Pacific: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en(underscore)INTL/homepage Email Story IM Story Printable View Blog This Sign in to recommend this article » 0 users recommend Related Articles: Business WRAPUP 1-Chinese investment surges, offsetting export fallReuters - Thursday, June 11 Chinalco blames Rio, not AustraliaReuters - Friday, June 12 Turkey's Tekfen signs $225 mln deal in EmiratesReuters - Thursday, June 11 JGBs follow Treasury drop, 5-year offer well receivedReuters - Thursday, June 11 India Hot Stocks: Everest Kanto adds gains on NSE block dealReuters - Thursday, June 11 Most Popular – Business Viewed Ramsay eats humble pie after mum scolds him Dumped mattress lands cash in trash in Israel German retail giant goes bust, 43,000 jobs at risk Carradine may have died from sex act: Thai police Earth-Venus smash-up possible in 3.5 billion years: study View Complete List » Search: Home Singapore Asia Pacific World Business Entertainment Sports Technology Top Stories Most Popular Copyright © 2009 Yahoo!
