The 31-year-old Uggla, who joined Atlanta in January after churning a stellar career with the Florida Marlins, extended his hitting streak to 30 games in a 4-3 victory over his former team at Sun Life Stadium Tuesday night. Uggla, the all-time career home-run leader with the Marlins, with whom he was recognized with two All-Star picks and the 2010 NL Silver Slugger Award, smacked an infield single in the fifth inning off Marlins starter Clay Hensley. That hit enabled Uggla to tie Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier mark set earlier in the season for the majors’ longest hitting streak of the year. On Monday, Uggla tied Rowland Office’s mark set in 1976 by beating out an infield single during the fifth inning in an 8-5 victory in the three-game set opener. Uggla is one game shy of matching another Braves great Rico Carty, who holds the record of 31 games, set in 1970, the year he was named to his only All-Star selection as a write-in candidate. In Braves history, Tommy Holmes holds the longest hitting streak with 37 games, set in 1945 when the franchise was located in Boston. Uggla struggled early this season, with pitchers consistently throwing the ball away from him, forcing him to roll over on pitches that resulted in the dip in his average. He managed to adjust with the pitches, as he is now batting .338 with 14 homers during the current streak. Uggla was .173 when this streak began. Uggla has boosted it up to .220 on the season.
