"Playboy" Dasmond Koh took away Christina Lin's First Kiss?
Channel NewsAsia - 2 hours 51 minutes ago
After three years away from the silver screen, Dasmond Koh returns once again with his latest role in the movie "Missing You". While fans have gotten use to his hosting, Dasmond takes time to return to acting. And instead of playing his usual Mr. Decent role, Dasmond plays a playboy in "Missing You". He even goes on to claim Christina Lin's virgin silver screen kiss!
Despite missing Dasmond during the press conference for Missing You, Xin.sg manages to catch up with him over the phone. Hearing his familiar voice over the phone does remind one of the time when he was still a DJ on Y.E.S. 933. Dasmond explains that his absence (at the press conference) was due to the work commitment for "The Sheng Siong Show". His other involvements in TV, this time of year, also include the "Countdown Show" for New Year.
Fans are sure to be awe by Dasmond's performance in the movie, as he parts with his stereotyped image as Mr. Decent, to play a rich man's son, Simon. After successfully wooing the shop assistant of a comic shop, played by Christina, Dasmond ditches her for other girl/s. Joshua Ang, who plays the car washer carrying a torch for Christina "completes" the love triangle.
Dasmond reveals that Joshua is actually his god-brother and he had known Christina since his days in radio. With such a mix of co-workers, fun things are bound to happen on set, Dasmond says, "We had a lot of fun working together, everybody was goofing around; I really enjoyed the process. Someone would pull a funny face during shoot, and it would get really tough to avoid bursting into laughter." (Xin.sg: Is it Joshua?) "Yes! As you know, he's a real time actor while Christina and I are merely a DJ and a variety program host."
A young cast, a plot revolving around Getai (Stage performance during the 7th lunar month, Hungry Ghost Festival), flashy poster and most of all, a brand new filming style, has given the movie a sweet and aesthetic feel.
In Dasmond's words, "I think this movie reflects a lot on the local youngsters and I'm also able to relate the stories to people around me; the whole movie takes a sweet and aesthetic perspective. In addition, a TV host, a radio DJ and an actor who has just completed his national service, is sure to spark of some beautiful chemistry for the show."
Dasmond had known director Lim Koong Hwee prior to the movie and worked with him in 2004 for drama "When the Time Comes". So why did it take so long for Dasmond to get back to acting again?
"First of all, I've a lot of TV programs to host these days, and there just isn't the time to do it (act). Secondly, I haven't been approached as my image as a TV host has limited the roles I can try out. I'm actually open to any interesting role that producers think may suit me," Dasmond explains. That explains why we see him as a playboy this time.
Dasmond managed to take on the role as the shooting lasted only for about a week; not disturbing his TV hosting schedule. To be able to act again, Dasmond admits to have fully enjoyed the experience.
