Southwest Flight Lands In Orlando After Reporting Fire
July 14, 2009 1:20 p.m. EST

Melvin Baker - AHN Reporter
Orlando, FL (AHN) - A Southwest Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Orlando International Airport Tuesday afternoon, the second Southwest plane in two days to report problems while in the air.
Southwest flight 3238 was enroute to Orlando from St. Louis when the crew reported a possible fire.
The plane, a Boeing 737, landed safely at 12:10 p.m. None of the 134 persons aboard was reported injured.
The problem occurred despite Southwest ordering an inspection of all of its 737s after another of the airline's 737s reported a football-sized hole opened in the fuselage during flight. Flight 2294 was forced to make an emergency landing in Charleston, WV, Monday evening.
The hole caused a drop in cabin pressure, which in turn caused the plane's oxygen masks to deploy. None of the 126 passengers or five crew members was injured.
The plane was flying at 34,000 feet from Nashville, TN, to Baltimore, MD, when the breach occurred.
A sudden drop in cabin pressure caused the jet's oxygen masks to deploy, but there were no injuries among the 126 passengers or the five-member crew.
The aircraft was still being inspected at the Charleston airport when the fire was reported on the Orlando flight.
