Larry King ends CNN stint with nostalgia and family
LOS ANGELES - Larry King, the gruff CNN personality whose nonconfrontational interviews were a hit with newsmakers and viewers for 25 years, signed off at the cable news channel on Thursday with a series of reminiscences from big names, old pals and family members. "Good evening and welcome to the last 'Larry King Live,'" the 77-year-old broadcast icon said at the outset of his hour-long swan song. "It's hard to say that. I knew this day was coming. These words are not easy to say."
Garth Brooks overwhelmed by demand for Nashville shows
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Garth Brooks's offer to perform a benefit concert for Tennessee flood victims has become nine sold-out concerts beginning on Thursday night, and the music star said he was overwhelmed by the response. Brooks, the all-time best-selling star in country music, will raise at least $4 million for the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for the nine concerts over six days.
"King's Speech," "Fighter" lead SAG film nominees
LOS ANGELES - The Screen Actors Guild on Thursday nominated the performers in "The King's Speech" and "The Fighter" for four awards each, including best cast, boosting the films' chances in Hollywood's Oscar sweepstakes. Joining those films among nominees for best ensemble cast, which is SAG's top film honor, are the actors in "Black Swan," "The Kids Are All Right" and "The Social Network.

LOS ANGELES - Hollywood is once again overstuffing the Christmas stocking with films of all shapes and sizes, hoping to benefit from the most lucrative and intense stretch of the year at the box office. Among the four new wide releases, Disney's 3D tentpole "Tron: Legacy" is expected to top the weekend with three-day sales north of $40 million.
"Pink Panther" director Blake Edwards dies at 88
LOS ANGELES - Director, writer and producer Blake Edwards, who made more than 40 films including the classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the "Pink Panther" comedies, has died from complications of pneumonia at age 88. A spokesman for his wife, Julie Andrews, said Edwards died Wednesday night at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, with Andrews and immediate family members by his side.
Mariah Carey is expecting twins
NEW YORK - Grammy Award winning singer Mariah Carey is expecting twins, her husband Nick Cannon told a U.S. radio show on Thursday. Cannon said on the 92.3 Now radio show that Carey first told President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama about the twins after a recent performance. Carey announced in October she was pregnant.
Michael Jackson vs. Susan Boyle and Taylor Swift for No. 1 album
LOS ANGELES , as could Swift's "Speak Now," which is currently at No. 2. The Billboard 200 chart will be published on Wednesday.
Duran Duran goes forward on new album by going back
NEW YORK - Duran Duran rose to fame in the 1980s with stylized videos that fueled the early MTV generation, and in recent years has sold out live shows by playing old hits such as "Hungry Like a Wolf" and "The Reflex." But with a new album, "All You Need is Now," set for release on December 21, the band whose synthesized pop rock helped usher in the New Wave of the '80s is updating its sound for a younger generation while still offering a taste of their past.
"Spider-Man" opening appears delayed, again
NEW YORK - Troubled Broadway musical "Spider-Man," the most expensive show ever created for the Great White Way, appears headed for another delay as producers weigh a decision to push its opening into February, according to media reports on Thursday. The New York Times, citing two unnamed sources involved with the "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," said moving it from a planned January 11 debut will allow creators to stage a new final number, rewrite some dialogue and add or delete scenes.
