"General Hospital" gained 21 nominations, including best lead actor in a drama series for Maurice Benard and best lead actress for Laura Wright. "The Young and the Restless" gained the second highest total with 20 nominations followed by "Sesame Street" with 16. Canceled long-running ABC soap opera "All My Children," which like other soap operas in recent years has dropped in audience size, earned 13 nominations, including two for lead actress in a drama series. Among the talk shows, "Rachel Ray," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Live with Regis and Kelly" and "The View" scored nominations in the entertainment talk show category. Having dominated the genre for years, Oprah Winfrey no longer enters her popular talk show into the best talk show and best talk show host categories, and Ellen DeGeneres no longer submits herself for consideration as best talk show host. PBS led the television networks with 57 nominations -- mostly for its children's programing and cooking shows -- followed by ABC with 56. ABC television said in April it was canceling its long-running daytime soap operas "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," which received 12 nominations. Both dramas are to be replaced by new programing focused on "transformation, food and lifestyle", with ABC saying that audience research had shown that these issues were of more interest to viewers. The Daytime Emmys will be handed out on June 19 at a ceremony in Las Vegas broadcast live on CBS.
