LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Tenor Placido Domingo is back at work in Los Angeles after colon cancer surgery earlier this month, and has started singing again -- but only in private.

Domingo, 69, was supposed to still be resting after the surgery in New York to remove a malignant polyp from his colon.
But he sat in on rehearsals this week for the Los Angeles Opera's upcoming production of Wagner's "Gotterdammerung", the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Spanish singer, who is general director of the Los Angeles Opera, told reporters he had begun singing again privately.
"It is still tender, you know," said Domingo, pointing to his abdomen. "But I started proving my voice again two days ago."
Domingo said he is due to begin rehearsals for "Simon Boccanegra" at Italy's La Scala opera house in two weeks, according to the Los Angeles Times.
