San Francisco, CA (AHN) - Microsoft on Thursday launched a new search engine service to replace its Live Search in a bid to catch up on Internet search leader Google.
The new search engine dubbed Bing will be rolled out in the coming days and become fully deployed on June 3, according to the company. Bing will initially focus on finding shopping, travel, local business and information, and health-related information.
"Bing is an important first step forward in our long-term effort to deliver innovations in search that enable people to find information quickly and use the information they've found to accomplish tasks and make smart decisions," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive officer, said in a statement, according to Xinhuanet.com.
Microsoft is lagging in the search engine competition with only an 8.2 percent share of the market, good for third place, compared to Google's 64.2 percent in April, according to market research firm com.Score. Yahoo has the second-largest share of the search engine market, but still distant from Google, with 20.4 percent.
