KARACHI, Jan 4 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.65/70 to the dollar on Monday, weaker than the previous close of 85.61/68 and dealers said the local unit is expected to stay under pressure following a rise in international oil prices.
* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> fell 1.44 percent, or 173 points, to end at 11,849.46, on turnover of 91.18 million shares.
* Foreign investors bought shares worth a net $441,916 on Monday.
* U.S. stocks greeted the new year with a rally on Monday as encouraging signs about the outlook for manufacturing around the world prompted investors to inject new money into the market.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 93.24 points, or 0.81 percent, to 11,670.75. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 14.23 points, or 1.13 percent, to 1,271.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> climbed 38.65 points, or 1.46 percent, to 2,691.52. [.N]
* Oil slipped from the highest price levels in more than two years on Tuesday on expectations that fuel demand will ease after the approaching peak of the Northern Hemisphere heating season, slowing the drain of U.S. stockpiles.
U.S. crude for February <CLc1> fell 5 cents to $91.50 a barrel at 0236 GMT, more than a dollar lower than Monday's peak of $92.58, the highest intraday price since early October 2008.
ICE Brent <LCOc1> gained 12 cents to $94.96, having topped $96 on Monday for the first time since 2008. [O/R]
* Spot gold edged higher on Tuesday, after data showed improved manufacturing output in the United States, signalling more traction for the global economic recovery.
Spot gold <XAU=> gained $1.80 at $1,415.8 an ounce by 0021 GMT. [GOL/]
