McDowell was one of three players who capitalized on the easier conditions and shot a course record 64 that put him 11-under par, 133, through 36 holes. He was tied at the top with Scotsmen Scott Jamieson and Peter Whiteford, who both shot rounds of 66. Jose Manuel Lara was a shot back at 134 after a 66 while the other two 64 shooters, Angel Cabrera and Paul Lawrie were tied at nine-under, 135 with Nicolas Colsaerts (66). McDowell got his day off to a fast start with a birdie at the 10th then added an eagle at the par five 12th. Birdies at 13, 16 and 18 gave him a 30 on the back nine, his first. He added two more coming home for his 64. The former U.S. Open champion called it a "dream start" and acknowledged the lack of wind. "We realized conditions were going to be easy and it was going to be there for the taking a little bit," McDowell said. As good as McDowell's round round, Jamieson's could have been better. The 27-year-old rookie started his day on the back nine with a bogey then peeled off five straight birdies and produced an eagle three at the par five 18th to shoot 30 on the back nine. On the front, he got another eagle at the par five second and was 13-under for the tournament going into the par three 17th. His tee shot was short, he hit a sloppy chip that stopped on the fringer of the green then he proceeded to three-putt for a doublel-bogey five. "It would be a dream to win," Jamieson said of the chance to win on his home soil. Whiteford produced eight birdies in his round of 66 but had back-to-back bogeys at the fourth and fifth holes. The afternoon group that included Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, was hit by a storm delay and play was suspended for the day. Donald was two-under for his round through seven holes and seven-under for the tournament. Westwood, who held a share of the first round lead, was even par on his day through 11 holes and seven-under. Matt Kuchar was the top player in the American contingent. His second round 66 got him into the group at eight-under par. Phil Mickelson rallied from his first round 73 with a 67 to get to four-under par and was projected to make the 36-hole cut on the number, ensuring he'll be around for the weekend.
