But it has the most engaging Facebook fans nonetheless. Jesus Daily, started by 41-year-old Aaron Tabor, a North Carolina doctor, uses the words of the Lord to engage fans. To date, the Facebook page has 8.4 million "likes." Started in April 2009, Tabor, who grew up watching his father preach at churches in Alabama and North Carolina, began the Facebook page as a hobby after using the social network site to promote his diet book. Jesus Daily is updated every day with scripture. The passages are intended to be inspiring, hopeful and comforting. Tabor said his aim is to be encouraging. According to Facebook, 31 percent of users in the United States list religion in their profile. Outside of the United States, 24 percent do so. Last week, Jesus Daily registered 3.4 million interactions. In comparison, Justin Bieber's Facebook page had 630,000 interactions by the pop sensation's 35 million fans. Pope Benedict recently acknowledge that social networks offer a great opportunity to connect with God, but also noted that virtual interaction cannot take the place of church worship.
