UK court orders writ to be served via Twitter
 
LONDON - Britain's High Court ordered its first injunction via Twitter on Thursday, saying the social website and micro-blogging service was the best way to reach an anonymous Tweeter who had been impersonating someone. Solicitors Griffin Law sought the injunction against the micro-blog page www.twitter.com/blaneysblarney arguing it was impersonating right-wing blogger Donal Blaney, the owner of Griffin Law.

NEW YORK - The explosion of ways people watch television is confounding the media industry, which has relied for decades on the Nielsen ratings but now must adapt to the realities of the Internet and on-demand video. Americans are watching more TV than ever -- an average of 151 hours a month -- on more networks and in increasingly diverse ways. Industry heavyweights and analysts are calling for a new ratings system to keep up.
 
Online education expanding, awaits innovation
 
CHICAGO - When Janice Barnwell decided to boost her career by obtaining a master's degree in business, the working mother chose an online university because of the convenience and the low cost. The 44-year-old's educational experience exceeded her expectations, and her new employer paid for her to take four more courses online to sharpen her skills.
 
Cisco bets on video growth with Tandberg bid
 
NEW YORK/OSLO - Network equipment maker Cisco Systems <CSCO.O> struck a deal to buy Norwegian videoconferencing company Tandberg <TAA.OL> for $3 billion in a bid to dominate the high-growing market of corporate video communications. Analysts said the move ratchets up competition, and possibly more deals, among video conferencing providers like Hewlett-Packard <HPQ.N> and Polycom <PLCM.O>, and underscores Cisco's focus on video conferencing which enables workers everywhere to interact with colleagues and customers online.
 
EU launches free satellite system to fine-tune GPS
 
BRUSSELS to around 2 meters. The EGNOS system will use three satellites and 34 ground stations to narrow the horizontal accuracy of GPS from around 7 meters previously and improve its vertical accuracy to help pilots during landings.
 
Verizon discontinues Internet Hub phone
 
NEW YORK - Verizon Wireless, the No. 1 U.S. mobile service, quietly stopped selling the Verizon Hub on Tuesday, just eight months after it launched the experimental device which combined a home telephone and Web applications. Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications Inc <VZ.N> and Vodafone Group Plc <VOD.L>, did not explain why it stopped selling the device, which launched on February 1.
 
Britain asks Schwarzenegger to close prostitute website
 
LONDON - A British government minister asked California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday to shut down a U.S. website that allows men to rate prostitutes, including many working in London. Harriet Harman, minister for women and equality, told the ruling Labor Party's annual conference that "Punternet" fuels the demand for prostitution -- a vice she said degrades women and puts them at risk.
 
Distracted driving blamed for 5,800 U.S. deaths
 
WASHINGTON - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Wednesday called distracted driving a serious epidemic with more than 5,800 annual U.S. traffic deaths tied to motorists who failed to keep their eyes on the road. LaHood opened a two-day conference exploring research on cellphone use and text messaging while driving as well as other topics that can divert the attention of motorists.
 
GE talks to Comcast about NBC Universal: sources
 
NEW YORK - General Electric Co <GE.N> is holding talks to sell 51 percent of NBC Universal to Comcast Corp <CMCSA.O>, which would pay up to $7 billion in cash and contribute some programing assets to the new, jointly owned company, according to a person familiar with the matter. GE, which owns 80 percent of NBC Universal, is considering a host of proposals for NBC Universal as partner Vivendi SA <VIV.PA> explores whether to sell its 20 percent stake.
