Charlie Sheen's image goes up among many fans: poll
LOS ANGELES - Reports of heavy drinking, drug use, porn stars. None of that should be good for a Hollywood celebrity -- unless that star is Charlie Sheen. Sheen's drinking and drug problems may have caused a temporary shutdown on his "Two and A Half Men" TV comedy, but some of his fans think even more highly of him now than before, according to a survey released on Wednesday by show business newspaper, The Hollywood Reporter.
Ricky Martin, Kristin Chenoweth honored by GLAAD
LOS ANGELES - Singer Ricky Martin and Broadway singer and actress Kristin Chenoweth are being honored for their efforts to increase understanding of America's gay and lesbian community, the campaign group GLAAD said on Wednesday. Martin, the Latin singer who came out as gay last year, will be given GLAAD's Vito Russo Award at a ceremony in March. The award is given annually to an openly gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual professional who is deemed to have made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the community.
Critics merciless in swat at musical "Spider-Man"
NEW YORK - It's been delayed five times, suffered multiple cast injuries and been the butt of jokes. Now Broadway's most expensive show ever, "Spider-Man," has been reviewed by the critics, and universally panned. Critics had respected tradition by holding back from reviewing the beleaguered $65 million musical, "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark," because it was still in previews and not scheduled for a formal opening until March 15.

Barbra Streisand to sing on Grammy stage
LOS ANGELES - Eight-time Grammy winner Barbra Streisand will give a rare, live performance at the upcoming Grammy Awards, organizers said on Tuesday in announcing other stars joining the show including Miley Cyrus. The 68 year-old actress figures to be a big part of the world's top music industry awards, the Grammys, when they are given out on Sunday, February 13.
Famke Janssen will bewitch "Hansel and Gretel"
LOS ANGELES - "X-Men" actress Famke Janssen has joined Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in a "Hansel and Gretel" action comedy that depicts the fairy-tale pair as bounty hunters. The Paramount project, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," picks up years after the siblings' childhood trauma at the gingerbread house. Janssen will play the leader of the witches.

Oscar producers seek tweeting moms on awards night
BEVERLY HILLS - Oscar organizers rolled out the digital red carpet on Monday, unveiling their slogan "you're invited" for the upcoming film honors, detailing a Web-friendly show and inviting the nominees' mothers to tweet on Hollywood's big night. At Monday's Oscar nominees luncheon, which is one of the most exclusive of the annual Academy Award gatherings, top stars such as Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem turned out to get their "class picture" taken, listen to tips on acceptance speeches and rub elbows with fellow stars.
