PAKISTAN - Market factors to watch - Sept 3

KARACHI, Sept 3 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee <PKR=> ended firmer at 85.55/60 to the dollar on Thursday, compared with Wednesday's close of 85.59/64, and dealers said the rupee would be range-bound in the short-term but expected pressure in the medium-term.
* The Karachi Stock Exchange benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended up 0.28 percent at 9,762.89, on turnover of 43.82 million shares. [.KA]
* The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $4.46 million on Thursday.
* U.S. stocks rose on low volume on Thursday as data showed improvement in housing and the job market a day ahead of the critical monthly payrolls figures.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 50.63 points, or 0.49 percent, to 10,320.10. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 9.81 points, or 0.91 percent, to 1,090.10. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 23.17 points, or 1.06 percent, to close at 2,200.01. [.N]
* Oil fell on Friday for the first day in three as traders awaited monthly U.S. employment data, while Hurricane Earl approached the country's east coast, fuelling concerns of disruptions to refineries and demand during the Labor Day long weekend.
Prices were headed for their third weekly drop in four weeks, having risen last week. U.S. crude for October <CLc1> slipped 22 cents to $74.80 a barrel at 0249 GMT, while ICE Brent <LCOc1> declined 32 cents to $76.61. [O/R]
* Gold prices were little changed on Thursday, and holdings in the SPDR Gold Trust fell for the first time in a week, as investors waited for key U.S. jobs data due later in the day.
Spot gold <XAU=> was little changed at $1,250.30 an ounce by 0029 GMT, on course for a weekly gain of 1.2 percent, its fifth straight week of rises. [GOL/]
