Chase - AHN News Editor Atlanta, GA, United States (AHN) - Elias Abuelazam, the suspect in a series of stabbings across three states, agreed in a Georgia courtroom Friday to face charges in one of the attacks. His alleged stabbing spree left 13 people wounded and five dead. Abuelazam, 33, was arrested Wednesday night in Atlanta at Hartsfield-International Airport. He was about to board a plane for his native Israel when authorities charged him with attempted murder stemming from a July 27 knife attack in Flint, MI. Officials believe additional charges will be levied against the man in Michigan, Ohio and Virginia. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Abuelazam, who is Palestinian, had lived in Virginia and Bradenton, FL. It is unclear when he entered the country. During his court appearance Abuelazam, wearing a blue prison outfit, told Hicks he agreed to waive an extradition fight. Seemingly expressionless, he also agreed to return to the state where he’s being charged. "Why should I wait 90 days, right?" Abuelazam told a judge. "That's the most common sense. It sounds more logical to go right now than waiting three months. Is that correct? Although authorities believe they have the man who committed the stabbings, they did not release a motive. Nearly all of the victims were black, but Leyton said he did not know whether Abuelazam targeted them because of their skin color.
