Jon Stewart hugs Stephen Colbert (back facing camera) after winning best variety music or comedy series for ''The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'' at the 61st annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California September 20, 2009.

Fri Sep 17, 2010 5:56pm EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - In an apparent spoof of the recent Tea Party rally in Washington, America's leading satirists Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will hold rallies on the National Mall days before the November election.
Daily Show host Stewart -- who satirizes U.S. political news from a Democratic viewpoint -- announced details of his "Rally to Restore Sanity" on his website on Friday, saying it was for those "who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive and terrible for your throat."
He said he hoped to attract an audience which believes it is only right to draw a Hitler mustache on someone "when that person is actually Hitler" -- a reference to posters seen at Tea Party rallies depicting U.S. President Barack Obama with a Hitler mustache.
The Colbert Report host said his "March to Keep Fear Alive" will be held at the same time. Both rallies are planned for the Saturday before the November 2 mid-term election, October 30 -- a date Stewart insists has "no significance whatsoever."
Colbert said in a statement that he encourages followers to "restore truthiness" in Washington and challenge those who wish "to replace our Fear with reason."
"But never forget -- 'Reason' is just one letter away from "Treason," said Colbert, who spoofs Republican-leaning chat show hosts.
Three weeks ago, conservative pundit Glenn Beck and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the de facto leader of the Tea Party movement, held a rally to "Restore Honor."
The event attracted some 200,000 conservatives and but drew criticism for being held on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's famed "I have a dream" speech.

Glenn Beck did not come close to having 200,000 people at his rally on 28 August. You are using a number that was for his National Park Service permit.
CBS News hired a firm to take aerial photographs and give a proper count of the turnout. The work by AirPhotosLive.com came up with a count of 87,000 people with a margin of error of 9,000.
Here is the link to the CBS article: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20014993-503544.html
I’m sure you’ll be getting comments from Beck fans telling you that 200,000,000 people showed up for the rally.

So, in reuters wisdom they say Stewart satirizes American politics, no he mocks conservatives/values. His event to restore sanity will only work if he encourages people to vote liberals out of office.

Beck rally crowd estimates were closer to 500,000. The faux Stewart and Colbert clown rally will not draw a fraction of that. And Europeans should be happy for that fact… because the folks at the Beck rally were the men and women (and their children) of America who came to Europeans aid 70 years ago. The clowns that will show up to the Stewart and Colbert farce … take a close look. Think you’re looking at the next greatest generation? Pray for America.
