"Cape No.7" goes head on with cultural differences
Channel NewsAsia - Thursday, November 27
Taiwanese production "Cape No.7" portrayed strong hometown culture and broke box-office records in its homeland. Female lead Chie Tanaka is confident this culture-specific movie will also strike a chord with our local audience and make it big in Singapore.
Tanaka says at a press conference on Nov 25, she was initially afraid that people outside Taiwan will not understand the movie; however promotional activities in Japan proved otherwise.
"Majority of the Japanese audience was not laughing during the screening; I was quite worried. It is only when I hear them laugh that I feel relieved," she says.
Male lead Van Fan confesses to have a similar experience with Aga, the character he played in the movie. "I feel for Aga. I can also understand why he throws a temper for no apparent reason," he says.
For supporting actress Shino Lin, this is her first acting assignment and she already loves it.
"I think movie making is really interesting. I think this experience is going to be like music; a road with no return for me," she says.
"Cape No. 7" will be in Singapore cinemas on Nov 27.
