Looks like the former "Big Willie Weekend" is now going to Shia LaBeouf and the bots of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which earned a record-breaking haul for the 4th of July holiday weekend. "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" grossed $116.4 million over the Friday to Monday period, setting an Independence Day record with its $97.5 million Friday to Sunday gross. It's already the year's fourth-biggest hit, earning $181.1 million and $379 million. I guess it's only a matter of time before we see "Transformers: The Wall." The take was quite a bit smaller than the opening of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which had already crossed the $200 million mark at this point. Call it the Megan Fox effect. The Selena Gomez effect, on the other hand, isn't quite so powerful. Her new movie "Monte Carlo," which also stars Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy, opened at #6 with $7.6 million. The movie reportedly cost $20 million to make. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts prove once again that together they're just not box-office gold. After the disappointing take of "Charlie Wilson's War," "Larry Crowne" earned a modest $13 million from Friday to Sunday, starting at #4 for the weekend, behind the second-week take of "Cars 2" at #2 with $26 million and "Bad Teacher" at #3 with $14.5 million. Elsewhere, "The Green Lantern" crossed the $100 million mark stateside, "Bridesmaids" moved past $150 million, and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box-office, already becoming the 7th highest-grossing film of all-time.
