"Between approximately 2:40 p.m. PDT and 3:15 p.m. PDT today (Friday), some Google News users experienced difficulty accessing search results for queries related to Michael Jackson," a Google spokesman told CNET. TMZ, which broke the news of the King of Pop's demise, and the Los Angeles Times Website, which confirmed the death, suffered several outages. Perez Hilton's blogsite slowed down due to a flood of queries about Jackson's cardiac arrest. User traffic on CNN rose five folds when it received 20 million page views in the hour the sad news broke out. Twitter crashed as users posted their reactions while Wikipedia suffered temporary overloading from about 500 edits on Jackson's entry in the hour the news broke out. Also hit by outages due to high traffic were AOL's instant messenger, CNN said. A spokesperson from Virgin Media, one of the major Internet service providers (ISPs) in the UK, told The Telegraph, "Whenever there is a rapid rise in the demand for a single or a few particular websites, those sites might not have enough bandwidth to cope and could go down."
