Senior police official Chaudhry Mohammad Shafiq says the late Friday explosions occurred near the Al-Falah Theatre. He says it is possible that the blasts were caused by low-intensity bombs but that authorities are still investigating. Television footage showed ambulances rushing to the scene and people running through the area. At least one small blast was caught on camera. It appeared to occur at the main gate of the theater. Pakistan has been wracked by bombings in the past two years, but most have occurred in its northwest regions near Afghanistan where militants have strongholds.
