GLAAD Announces Nominees For Annual Media Awards

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) - The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has announced the nominees for its 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards, with "Glee," "True Blood," and "Mad Men" all vying for an honor.
The awards recognize and honor media for portraying outstanding images of the LGBT community. The nominees were published, released, or broadcast between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
The shows vying for Outstanding Drama Series are "Brothers & Sisters," "Grey's Anatomy," "True Blood," "Mad Men," and Skins," while for the comedy series, the nominees are "Beautiful People," "Glee," "Greek," "Modern Family," and United States of Tara."
The comedy "I Love You, Man" is up for Outstanding Film against "Everybody's Fine," "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," "A Single Man," and "Taking Woodstock."
Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga are also nominated for Outstanding Music Artist.
"Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon will be receiving a special honor at the ceremony. She will be presented with the Vito Russo Award, named after a GLAAD founding member, for her significant effort in promoting equal rights for the community.
President Jarrett Barrios said, "Cynthia Nixon has been a vocal and visible advocate who has transformed cultural attitudes about our community. She is a perfect example of how sharing your personal story and speaking out for marriage equality can inspire change among fair-minded Americans. It is our privilege to honor her."
Also, the Broadway cast of "Hair" would receive Special Recognition for their "commitment to raising visibility for marriage equality."
Alan Cumming will host the New York ceremony at the Marriott Marquis on March 13, while the San Francisco event at the Westin St. Francis on June 5 will be emceed by Bruce Vilance. Another ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on April 17 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
