Stone says Chavez film may struggle to get U.S. play
VENICE - U.S. director Oliver Stone fears his documentary about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a fierce critic of American foreign policy, will struggle to find a distributor at home. "South of the Border," which had its world premiere at the Venice film festival this week, portrays Chavez as a champion of the poor, and includes interviews with the leaders of Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador and Cuba.

VIENNA - R&B stars Mary J. Blige, Akon and Chris Brown and veterans Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge will honor the late Michael Jackson at a concert in Vienna later this month, with more stars due to be announced this week. Thirteen artists so far have been confirmed to perform at the concert, set in front of Vienna's Schoenbrunn castle on September 26, Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson and producer Georg Kindel told reporters at a news conference in Vienna.
Clooney plays hippie soldier in comedy set in Iraq
VENICE - U.S. actor George Clooney plays a New Age hippie soldier trained for psychic, peaceful combat in a comedy set during the war in Iraq. "The Men Who Stare at Goats" is based on a book by Jon Ronson about a secret unit created by the U.S. army in 1979 which, the author said, believed troops could become invisible, walk through walls and kill goats just by staring at them.
Byatt, Coetzee and Mantel top Man Booker shortlist
LONDON - Familiar names headed the shortlist for one of the world's top literary awards on Tuesday with JM Coetzee and AS Byatt two of the six authors left in the running for the coveted Man Booker Prize. Byatt, 73, who won the prize in 1990 for her novel "Possession," makes the 2009 shortlist with "The Children's Book," the tale of a famous writer who pens a separate, private book for each of her children, complete with family mysteries.
Florence and the Machine leads Mercury Prize race
LONDON - British singer-songwriters Florence and the Machine and Bat for Lashes are among the front-runners competing on Tuesday for the Mercury Prize, one of Britain's most prestigious annual music awards. Beatles re-master, game drag band into digital age
LONDON - The Beatles take a step closer to selling their music online on Wednesday with the simultaneous release of the band's re-mastered catalog and the MTV video game The Beatles: Rock Band. Clooney, Reitman soar with "Up in the Air"
TELLURIDE, Colo. - Cynicism and sentiment have melded magically in movies by some of the best American directors, from Preston Sturges and Billy Wilder to Alexander Payne. Jason Reitman mined the same territory in "Thank You for Smoking" and his smash hit, "Juno," and it's pleasing to report that he's taken another rewarding journey down this prickly path in his eagerly awaited new film, "Up in the Air."
Nicolas Cage to star in thriller
LOS ANGELES - Only days after signing to star in the 3D action pic "Drive Angry," Nicolas Cage is satiating his appetite with "The Hungry Rabbit Jumps," a thriller to be directed by Roger Donaldson. The script centers on a man whose wife is the victim of a brutal crime. He then becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization. Shooting is scheduled to begin in January in New Orleans. Tobey Maguire will serve as a producer.
