Home U.S. World Entertainment Sports Business Health Science Technology Politics Offbeat Environment Travel   News Articles Box Of Tissues, Bloody Sock Led To Arrest In Yale Murder November 13, 2009 1:59 p.m. EST   Kris Alingod - AHN Contributor New Haven, CT (AHN) - Raymond Clark, the former Yale University lab technician accused of killing a graduate student, Annie Le, in September tried to hide a box that had spatters of Le's blood when investigators were looking for the victim. Authorities found several item in the lab that led them to arrest Clark as the suspect, including a bloody pair of boots labeled "Ray-C." Le was last seen on university surveillance video on the morning of Sept. 8 entering the Animal Research Center at 10 Amistad Street. Her body was found in a wall behind a toilet in the basement of the lab five days later, the same day she was supposed to marry her college sweetheart, Jonathan Widawsky, a graduate student in physics at Columbia University. The 24-year-old, who was of Vietnamese descent, had been working on the role of enzymes in disease and was due to earn her doctorate degree in 2013. Clark was arrested and charged with murder on Sept. 17. A technician for five years at the lab, he is being held on a $3 million bond. He has not entered a plea. According to the police affidavit released on Friday, a co-worker of LeĀ  showed a police officer on Sept. 10 a box of tissues that had blood spatter on it. The box was on a push cart located in the room of the lab where Le had last used her key card. While the officer waited for the FBI to arrive to check the box, Clark had allegedly entered the room several times, at one point walking over to the cart to look at the box of tissues. The technician then stood between the officer and the box, turned to face the officer while "mov[ing] the box of wipes from the far left corner to the far right corner and turn[ing] the box so that the blood spatter was facing to the right hand side of the cart away from plain sight." Clark then "leaned up against the cart and made small talk" with the officer. Police said the blood splatter on the box matched DNA samples from Le. Investigators also found several pieces of clothing that implicated Clark. Blood stains on a white sock found inside a drop ceiling located in a secure area of the lab, contained both Clark and Le's DNA. The single sock matched the sock found in the crevice where Le's body's was stuffed. Authorities also have as evidence a pair of Vikings work boots with blood-like stains, missing shoe laces and the label "Ray-C" written on it, and a green pen found under Le's body. The pen, which contains DNA from both Clark and the victim, is believed to be the same one Clark had used to sign into task sheets, using the initials "RC," in different rooms of the lab. Key card records also showed that Clark was the first person to enter the room where Le last used her own swipe card. The technician had a highly unusual pattern of movements on the day of the alleged murder, and was the only person to enter another room with blood stains and where beads from a piece of jewelry were found, that had matched a bead found on Le's body. Clark is said to have been living with his fiance before his arrest. In Branford High School where he graduated in 2004, he was a member of the Asian Awareness Club. Yale University President Richard Levin had said in an e-mail to staff and students after his arrest, "His supervisor reports that nothing in the history of his employment at the University gave an indication that his involvement in such a crime might be possible."   Copyright © 2003 - 2009 AHN - All rights reserved.Redistribution, republication. syndication, rewriting or broadcast is prohibited without the prior written consent of AHN.License AHN news for your website, business, digital signage network or publication.   Recent Posts Most Popular Comments Recent Comments Popular Threads Home | U.S. | World | Entertainment | Sports | Business | Health | Sci / Tech | Politics | Weird / Offbeat Follow AHN on Twitter AHN Social News connects you with friends and the news Client Login | Submit News | Privacy Policy | Terms of Use | Contact | Content Services © 2009 AHN All Rights Reserved
