Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) - Parents are protesting Howard Stern's possible "American Idol" judging gig. Amid rumors that the shock jock will be replacing Simon Cowell next season, the Parents Television Council has sent out a press release, demanding Fox to clarify the reports.
Just this week, the Sirius XM Radio host said that he would judge the talent show if Fox can pay him as much as he is getting from the radio network. His Sirius contract expires in January.
This disturbed the parents' organization. They want the network to deny the reports that Stern is being considered for the role.
President Tim Winter said, "Given 'American Idol's' extreme popularity with family audiences, I hope that Fox will put the rumors to rest and announce that it has no intention of adding to the show one of the most profane, sexually-explicit and anti-family performers in the history of the broadcast medium - either as a guest or as a judge."
"Unless Stern intends to undergo some sort of moth-to-butterfly metamorphosis - through in his case the change would be more like rattlesnake-to-Labrador Retriever - adding him to 'American Idol' would spell immediate death for one of the best franchises in American family entertainment."
PTC may just be getting worried for nothing. Stern did not exactly confirm he has been offered the job by "Idol" bosses, he just said that if "Idol" really wanted him on the show, they would "would to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough."
