Joy Behar and Cynthia Nixon were also honored with Excellence in Media and Vito Russo Award respectively. At the ceremony held at the Marriott Marquis in New York on Saturday, "Sex and City" creator Michael Patrick King presented the Vito Russo Award to Nixon for her contribution to the community. The award is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made significant difference in promoting equal rights for the commuity. Behar was presented with the Excellence in Media Award by Meredith Vieira for her strong commitment to educating the public about the lives of the LGBT people on her talk show "The Joy Behar Show." Also named winners were NBC's "Parks and Recreation," which got a nod for Outstanding Individual Episode; "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which was named Outstanding Talk Show Episode for its "Ellen DeGeneres and Her Wife Portia de Rossi" episode; and "One Life to Live," named Outstanding Daily Drama. Additional awards will be presented at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles on April 17 and at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco on June 5.
