Apple's App Store hits 10 billion downloads
HELSINKI - Apple's App Store reached landmark 10 billion downloads on Saturday, further underlining the lead of the iPhone-maker in mobile online software battle, a counter on front page of the store showed. Apple launched the iPhone store in mid-2008 and it proved to be an instant hit, driving sales of the smartphone and helping reshape the way mobile content is delivered.
Facebook to unveil financials, raises $1.5 billion
SEATTLE - Facebook is preparing to open its books this year or early in 2012 to give investors a glimpse into the financial workings of the world's No. 1 social network, after it sealed an oversubscribed $1.5 billion round of financing led by Goldman Sachs. The financing, $1 billion of which is from Goldman Sachs' overseas clients and $500 million from Goldman itself and Russian investment firm Digital Sky Technologies, gives the company a projected value of $50 billion, setting the stage for what could be one of the largest initial public offerings next year.
Google's Page brings change and questions
SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK - One day after Google's surprise announcement that Larry Page would once again run the company, investors and industry insiders were wondering if he is up to a now very different job. The 38-year-old co-founder of the world's No. 1 Internet search company will replace Eric Schmidt as chief executive officer in April, at a time when Google Inc <GOOG.O> is facing tough competition from Facebook and Twitter.
Cellcom and Iway launch Internet system for cars
TEL AVIV - Start-up Iway Mobile and Cellcom <CEL.N>, Israel's largest mobile phone operator, launched on Sunday a communications, Internet and entertainment system for the automobile. While the Comodo Console will be sold first in February in Israel, where it will be marketed exclusively by Cellcom <CEL.TA>, Iway is in talks to sell the product to cellular operators in other countries over the next six months.
Analysis: EA wins new friends with social, mobile games
NEW YORK - Electronic Arts <ERTS.O>, hurt by an industry-wide slump in video game sales, wants to become a big player in a new game -- social and mobile media. EA is the top publisher of games by revenue on Apple Inc's <AAPL.O> iPad and iPhone, and is concentrating more on its digital business. Sales of the more costly packaged games, like its "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" golf game, have taken a beating since the beginning of the recession.
Sprint seen adding subscribers, at least in the fourth quarter
NEW YORK - Sprint Nextel <S.N> is expected to reward long-suffering investors with its first quarterly subscriber growth in more than three years, but the celebration may be short-lived. Gains in the 2010 fourth quarter would be a milestone for Chief Executive Dan Hesse in his bid to turn around the No. 3 U.S. mobile service, but analysts say customers losses will likely resume in the current quarter.

Apple tightens the screws on iPhone 4: sources
SAN FRANCISCO - Apple Inc <AAPL.O> is giving a whole new meaning to locking your phone with its new screws. In line with its infamous philosophy of maintaining absolute control over its products, sources said U.S. Apple stores are replacing screws on iPhone 4s brought for servicing with tamper-proof screws to prevent anyone else from opening the device.
Lenovo, NEC in talks to combine PC businesses: sources
TOKYO - China's Lenovo Group <0992.HK> is in talks with Japan's NEC Corp <6701.T> for a joint venture in personal computers, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter said, in a deal that would help them take on larger global rivals. The Nikkei business daily said Lenovo planned to take a controlling interest in NEC's PC unit. But a buy-out might be a delicate move as Japan eyes China's growing clout, and sources told Reuters it was not clear what form the partnership might eventually take.
Leadership worries hang over chipmaker AMD
SAN FRANCISCO - Concerns about Advanced Micro Devices Inc <AMD.N> roll-out of its new PC chips hung over its shares, despite the company's expectations of a better-than-seasonal first quarter. AMD's stock fell 5.24 percent to $7.60 as investors worried that early production and sales of new chips, including the upcoming 32 nanometer Llano processor might go less smoothly after chief executive Dirk Meyer abruptly left last week, despite assurances by the company.
