PM Lee holds bilateral meetings with APEC leaders

LIMA, PERU: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has held bilateral meetings with Asia Pacific leaders on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Lima, Peru. He met leaders from South Korea, New Zealand and Malaysia.
In his meeting with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, both sides exchanged views on regional developments and bilateral relations.
The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation and added that both sides should continue to explore ways to advance relations.
Mr Lee also met newly—elected New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. Both leaders reaffirmed the long—standing and close ties between the two countries.
They also discussed the impact of the global financial crisis and developments in the region, including its strategic architecture.
Both leaders look forward to the signing of the ASEAN—Australia—New Zealand Free Trade Agreement next month.
The press secretary to Mr Lee said the prime minister also had a good discussion on regional developments, including the effects of the financial crisis, with Korean President Lee Myung—bak.
The leaders exchanged views on how each country is taking measures to mitigate the effects of the economic downturn.
Both also look forward to advancing the good relations between the two countries through further contacts.
