Madonna still keen to adopt Malawian child: report
ADVERTISEMENT
LILONGWE - U.S. pop star Madonna is still keen on adopting a second child from Malawi, despite a court ruling in the southern African country preventing her from doing so, a local newspaper reported on Sunday. Madonna, who lost an appeal against a High Court decision refusing her bid to adopt a four-year-old girl named Mercy James, said she wants to provide education and a family environment for the young girl.
Racers too "Fast" for Hannah Montana at box office
LOS ANGELES - Miley Cyrus and her fabulous alter ago, Hannah Montana, likely will be no match for hot-rod racers and cartoon aliens at movie theaters across North America this Easter holiday weekend. Walt Disney Pictures' "Hannah Montana: The Movie," the first nonconcert feature starring the 16-year-old starlet, is expected to open at No. 3 across the United States and Canada, behind reigning champ "Fast & Furious" and former No. 1 "Monsters vs. Aliens," according to studio projections.
Paparazzo says actor Woody Harrelson assaulted him
LOS ANGELES - A paparazzo has accused actor Woody Harrelson of assaulting him and damaging a video camera on Wednesday night at LaGuardia Airport in New York, officials said. No charges have been filed but Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police are investigating, Port Authority spokesman Ron Marsico said on Friday.
Festival producers optimistic despite recession
LOS ANGELES - With the summer music festival season just around the corner, leading international festival producers insist that the difficult economic climate isn't putting a serious crimp on business, and key promoters report that ticket sales are on par with years past. "We're not feeling it yet," says AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips, whose company produces large U.S. festivals like Coachella, Stagecoach, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Mile High and All Points West, among others. "I'm not saying we won't eventually, but the festival business is tremendous value for the money in terms of the show and what you get."
Green Day plans rare NYC club gig
NEW YORK - Green Day will appear at New York's Bowery Ballroom on May 18, just three days after the release of the band's hotly anticipated eighth studio album, "21st Century Breakdown," according to MTV Germany. The small club show is a rarity for the band, whose last album, 2004's "American Idiot," sold more than 12 million copies.
Dave Matthews Band's "Whiskey" a toast to Moore
NASHVILLE , the band's maturation and a focus on creating a studio project on a level with the band's potency as one of the most popular live acts in rock history. But it's hard to deny the impact of the loss of founding member LeRoi Moore, who last summer died of complications from injuries suffered in an all-terrain-vehicle accident after work on the album had begun.
Dolly Parton finds Cracker Barrel a good fit
NASHVILLE - In a deal that seems as natural as biscuits and gravy, Dolly Parton and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store have partnered to release "Backwoods Barbie: The Collector's Edition." The project not only propelled the veteran entertainer back into the top 10 of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart but also became the first Cracker Barrel title to be tracked by Nielsen SoundScan.
William H. Macy sees new turn in career track
LOS ANGELES - Award-winning actor William H. Macy says his long career in movies, on stage and on television is in transition, moving him behind the camera as offers for acting roles have hit a lull. Macy is currently starring in low-budget comedy "Bart Got a Room" in U.S. art houses playing a hapless father whose son can't get a date to his high school prom. But he soon expects to take his first stab at directing an upcoming film called "Keep Coming Back."
"Rock Band" practicing "Chinese Democracy"
NEW YORK - Axl Rose may have spent 15 years fine-tuning the 14 tracks on "Chinese Democracy," but it took only five months for the album to make its way into the "Rock Band" video-game franchise. "Chinese Democracy" will be released in its entirety on the Rock Band Music Store on April 14, and gamers will be able to download and play all 13 songs from the record, Harmonix and MTV Games announced Friday. "Shackler's Revenge," the first track to emerge from the album, made its debut in the "Rock Band 2" release.
"Blade Runner" blaster gun lands on auction bloc
LOS ANGELES - A blaster gun used by actor Harrison Ford to hunt down and kill futuristic humanoids in 1982 sci-fi film "Blade Runner" will be put on the auction block in an upcoming sale of Hollywood memorabilia. Auctioneer Profiles in History expects about $3 million in total sales from the auction, which will include the collection of horror and science fiction promoter Forrest Ackerman and an animation puppet used in director Tim Burton's 2005 movie "Corpse Bride."
