ADVERTISEMENT A spokeswoman for Dell refused to confirm or deny media reports that some 10 percent of the remaining workforce were to go at its centres in Dublin and Limerick in the south-west of Ireland. "Should there be staffing reductions at our sites they will be in line with local laws and practices but we are not going into details about numbers, where or when or anything like that," she said. Ireland, which entered recession in September, suffered a major economic blow in January when Dell announced the closure of its assembly operation in Limerick with the loss of 1,900 jobs to a plant in Poland. Dell, which set up operations in Ireland in 1990 and employed 4,500 at its height, has been one of the jewels in the crown of the so-called Celtic Tiger economy. RTE said Dell staff had been briefed on the job losses and 130 people will be let go at Cherrywood, Dublin, with a further 100 losses at its plant in Limerick.
