Simon Cowell to Susan Boyle: "Get yourself together"
LOS ANGELES - Television's Simon Cowell said on Friday he was embarrassed at his initial reaction to British singing sensation Susan Boyle, but warned that just because she is a hit with fans, she is not a winner yet. Cowell, the creator and a judge on "Britain's Got Talent," said he was fed up with stories about the hair, eyebrows and cats of the never-married 47-year-old Boyle, and he urged her to focus now on winning the television talent competition.
Fox faces uncertainty over fate of "Idol" judges
LOS ANGELES - Fox television this week faced an uncomfortable future when the two biggest stars on its No. 1-rated show "American Idol" openly discussed leaving, which experts said could send viewership plummeting in future seasons. Paula Abdul, whose often quirky behavior has been a hot topic for years, told ABC News program "Nightline" that her contract ends after this season. And acid-tongued Simon Cowell, whom critics call the show's real star, gave several interviews in which he contemplated an exit when his deal ends next year.
Ex-Illinois gov. still hopes for a part in TV show
LOS ANGELES - Disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich said on Friday he was disappointed at being barred from taking part in a TV reality show that drops celebrities in a jungle but still hoped to help promote it. Blagojevich, who was kicked out of office and indicted for corruption, was invited to participate in "I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" -- a reality show in which 10 C-list celebrities are taken to a Costa Rican jungle and told to survive. It begins airing on the NBC network in June.
Forbes names Madonna Hollywood's hardest working mom
NEW YORK - With earnings of $110 million in 2008, Madonna topped Forbes' list of Hollywood's hardest working mothers, followed by actresses Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow. The pop singer and mother of three, who was recently turned down in her bid to adopt a second child from Malawi, grossed $105 million on her tour and sold nearly a million albums in the United States. Madonna also signed several lucrative endorsement deals last year, according to Forbes.com.
Late night TV host Jay Leno released from hospital
LOS ANGELES - Jay Leno was released from a hospital on Friday, one day after checking in with an undisclosed illness that forced the comedian to cancel a taping "The Tonight Show" for the first time in 17 years as host. Leno's spokesman Dick Guttman said the popular TV talk show star was held overnight Thursday for observation. He did not disclose what ailed the comedian, but said it was not symptomatic of any major health problem.
Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp to tour
LOS ANGELES - Singer Bob Dylan will be joined by country icon Willie Nelson and rocker John Mellencamp on a concert tour at minor league baseball parks this summer, Dylan's record label said on Friday. The trio's 22-date tour starts with a July 2 show in Sauget, Illinois, and ends August 15 in Stockton, California.

Americans battle their bulge on TV dance show
LOS ANGELES - Take the hip-shaking on "Dancing with the Stars" and mix it with the challenges of "The Biggest Loser," and audiences will get the idea of a summer TV show in which overweight contestants shed pounds by dancing. "Dance Your Ass Off", starting in June on the Oxygen cable TV channel, features 12 contestants battling their bulge on the dance floor and weight scales, hoping to win $100,000.
DVD software backups challenged in U.S. court
SAN FRANCISCO - Hollywood movie companies told a federal judge on Friday that RealNetworks violated copyright law by selling software that allows people to make backups of their DVDs on a home computer. U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel convened the first-day arguments by the movie companies and the DVD Copy Control Association that "RealDVD" software should be banned.
