MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee <PKR=> ended flat at 85.70/75 to the dollar on Friday, compared with Thursday's close of 85.70/77 to the dollar, and dealers said the rupee could come under pressure in the short-term because of higher demand for dollars for import payments. [PKR/]
* The Karachi Stock Exchange benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended 0.35 percent, or 36.52 points, lower at 10,315.20 on turnover of 56 million shares. [.KA]
* The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $2.27 million on Thursday.
* U.S. stocks fell on Friday after government data showed a larger-than-expected drop in July payrolls, giving investors a stark reminder the economic recovery remains slow.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 21.42 points, or 0.20 percent, to 10,653.56. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> shed 4.17 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,121.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 4.59 points, or 0.20 percent, to 2,288.47. [.N]
* Oil prices hovered just below $81 a barrel on Monday, as a weaker dollar supported prices that had fallen for three straight days last week, in part on poor U.S. economic data.
U.S. crude for September delivery <CLc1> edged up 18 cents to $80.90 a barrel by 0055 GMT. The contract fell $1.31 or 1.6 percent to settle at $80.70 a barrel on Friday but ended the week 2.2 percent higher. [O/R]
