The mega reunion created record by gathering over 200 current artistes, ex-artistes and producers. The night walked audiences down memory lane by recapping various interesting characters and programmes. Audiences relive precious TV moments from a decade ago with parodies of various memorable characters, including Guo Liang's rendition of Jack Neo's comedic character Liang Si Mei, Mark Lee's imitation of Huang Wen Yong's humble rubber-tapper in the station's landmark serial "The Awakening" and Dennis Chew's remodeling of Chen Li Ping's bumbling schoolteacher in "Good Morning, Sir" The gala also gave out four awards: Most Memorable Host, Most Classic Drama Character, Most Classic Variety Character and Most Memorable Newsreader. As the host of variety show "Sheng Bao Zhi Ye" in the 60s and 70s, Zhang Wei straddled across arenas to take on acting. His distinctive character captivated audiences over these years. It was an unbelievable moment for Zhang Wei when he received the "Most Memorable Host" award that night. He reveals his mixed feelings to Xin.sg. "It is hard to describe my feelings. This award came forty years later and I'm not mentally prepared; the feeling is complicated yet excited." "In 1969, there were few mega variety shows on TV. Sheng Bao Zhi Ye attracted a great following because it was a fresh concept. It was shown only once a week; if you missed it, you can only catch it the next week. The content was interesting and prizes were given out; that contributed to the programme's popularity," he adds. His speech reveals great emotions. Similarly for the "Most Memorable News Anchor" Chua Foo Yong, her emotions took a long time to subside. "New media does not belong to broadcast; it is part of every occupation. The internet has broken this national boundary. Audio, visual and text can reach every family through new media. Everyone has a mobile phone; the influence of new media is tremendous," she says. She exemplifies the power of new media with the recent America elections. "At the US Presidential Elections, Obama used the new media and advanced from someone whom nobody knows to someone whom many supports. I'm deeply moved by the power of this media." Jack Neo's rendition of opposite sex characters such as Liang popo resonates with the crowd and won the hearts of the audience. He walked away with the "Most Classic Variety Character" award. "I'm very happy. I've never thought of getting this award. When there was Liang popo, there was no Star Awards. This award came 16 years later and I treasure this very much. I think the variety segment was not as vibrant then and Liang popo was a comedic old lady, that's why she is outstanding," he says. Jack also advises, for a host to outshine his peers, he must have a strong personality and unique style. A variety character is a self-centered one, therefore outstanding personality is necessary to differentiate one from another.
