**CARMAKERS RALLY ON U.S. AUTO BAILOUT HOPES**
Shares in South Korean car makers extended gains on Wednesday afternoon after news that the White House and congressional Democrats on Tuesday night reached an agreement in principle on a $15 billion proposal to bail out U.S. automakers.[ID:nL9471247]
"Without the bailout, it would have meant the collapse of car markets in the United States, which would come as really bad news for car makers of all nationalities," said Cho Soo-hong, an analyst at Hyundai Securities.
Hyundai Motor <005380.KS>, the world's No.5 automaker, was up 10.8 percent and Kia Motors <000270.KS> was up 8.4 percent as of 0530 GMT. Hyundai shares had shed 38 pct since mid-October as of Tuesday's close.
Other carmakers including Japan's Honda Motor <7267.T> and Nissan Motor <7201.T> were also up 11.11 percent and 6.12 percent respectively.
"Still, the auto industry faces tough challenges ahead, namely slowing economic growth worldwide and dampening demand for new cars," Cho added.

**LG DISPLAY SLIDES AFTER PRICE FIXING PLEA**
Shares in LG Display fell after news that the South Korean flat screen maker and Japan's Sharp Corp <6753.T> will plead guilty in mid-December to price fixing in the market for thin-film transitor liquid crystal displays, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday.[ID:nN09268463]
"News overnight on its guilty plea in the United States to price fixing charges weighed on sentiment, and worsened worries about a similar ongoing court battle in Europe," said John So, an analyst at Goodmorning Shinhan Securities.
"Added to that are broader worries about global recession and its impact on tech spending. We estimate LG Display's 2009 first quarter operating loss to be around 300 billion won," So added.
LG Display was down 5.98 percent as of 0054 GMT.
