Perky Pamela takes on youngsters in Strictly final

LONDON (AFP) - – Perky 61-year-old Pamela Stephenson takes on comparative youngsters Kara Tointon and Matt Baker in Saturday's final of Strictly Come Dancing.
The psychologist, who describes herself as "chronologically advanced", said she is proud of her performances which have seen the judges on the BBC1 show give her perfect scores twice.
"I guess I feel quite proud about it because when I was in my 20s, for example, I don't think I could have done any of the things that I'm doing on Strictly," she said.
"I certainly wouldn't have believed that I would have been flipping over a young man's head and holding him in a lift and doing the things we are doing.
"It's perfectly possible to be athletic and enjoy dancing at this age but I suppose I was one of the people who thought that couldn't happen and I'm very glad to be proving it wrong," said Stephenson, wife of comedian Billy Connolly but also well known in her own right through her psychology work, which includes a sex advice column in The Guardian.
Despite those two 40-out-of-40 scores, she is still a long shot to win at bookmakers Betfair, who are offering decent odds of 8-to-1, shortened from 59-1 when the series began.
Baker at 4-5 is favourite to lift the glitterball trophy, ahead of near rival Tointon who is on 7-4.
The competitive trio and their partners have spent the past week putting the final touches to their dance routines ahead of Saturday's climax.
Former Blue Peter presenter Baker yesterday said an ambulance could be needed if his athletic routine goes wrong, before paying paid tribute to his partner Aliona Vilani, who has followed him around the country while he films Countryfile.
He said: "We've trained from here to the Outer Hebrides in the most ridiculous situations. It has been an incredible challenge for us. We have come up against an enormous amount.
"We've trained in barns, in community halls, in tiny little car parks, everywhere to make it happen every Saturday."
The pair are performing to The Bodyrockers hit I Like The Way You Move in tonight's final show, while Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev will dance to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now and Stephenson and partner James Jordan are entering the floor to (I've Had) The Time Of My Life.
Tointon has been romantically linked to professional dancer Chigvintsev, but has stayed tight-lipped about the rumours.
She said the gruelling training sessions and high-pressure live performances made the show the "most unromantic thing I've done", but admitted she was looking forward to going out for a meal with Chigvintsev after the series ends.
She said: "I've entered an entertainment show and met someone fantastic and after this? It has honestly been studio, studio, studio and a little bit four walls so I'm looking forward to getting out of those four walls and doing something nice like going for dinner."
The three finalists:
Pamela Stephenson:
The best-selling author, actress and clinical psychologist has added another string to her bow as a dancer and scored perfect marks from the judges twice.
The wife of comic legend Billy Connolly, her career included a stint on ground-breaking comedy show Not The Nine O'Clock News.
Her biography of her husband sold more than a million copies worldwide and she writes a sex advice column for The Guardian newspaper.
Matt Baker:
The former Blue Peter presenter regularly appears on The One Show and pundits have tipped him to become a permanent fixture on the prime-time programme once this season of Strictly ends.
The country boy from the North East presents Countryfile for the BBC and said he will celebrate the end of the series by going for a walk and getting some fresh air.
Another early favourite to win, his background as a junior British gymnast has helped him look a natural on the dancefloor.
Kara Tointon:
The former EastEnder who quit the square last year was one of the early favourites to win the show.
She has already proved herself on the dancefloor, winning a Sport Relief edition of the show in 2008 when she teamed up with former champion Mark Ramprakash.
The actress has stayed tight-lipped in the face of rumours of a romance with her dance partner Artem Chigvintsev but said she is looking forward to seeing him outside the studio once the show is over.
