The "24" actor handed himself in to New York police at 4pm Thursday where he was arrested on a charge of third degree assault, following his alleged attack on a fashion designer on Monday. Kiefer - who was accompanied by his Los Angeles lawyer Blair Berk - had his fingerprints taken and was photographed, before leaving the lower Manhattan precinct at 6pm. He is expected to answer the charges before a Manhattan Criminal Court judge within the next month. If convicted, the actor - who spent 48 days in jail at the end of 2007 after pleading no contest to driving under the influence (DUI), and is currently on probation in Los Angeles - faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The 42-year-old actor is accused of headbutting Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough at New York nightspot SubMercer, allegedly breaking his nose. The actor reportedly approached Jack after seeing him knock over actress Brooke Shields. Kiefer is said to have asked Jack to apologize, after which a scuffle broke out. Brooke's representatives initially insisted she had nothing to do with the incident. However, gossip website TMZ has claimed the actress told friends she was "jostled" by the designer but said the incident was "no big deal." She is also understood to have said she did not fall all the way to the ground, and blames her unsteadiness on the fact the room was dark and she was wearing six-inch high heels.
