MARKET SNAPSHOTS * In the currency market, the rupee <PKR=> ended weaker at 85.55/61 to the dollar, compared with Friday's close of 85.50/56 because higher demand for dollar due to import payments. [PKR/] * The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE>, rose 0.02 percent, or 1.64 points, to end at 10,297.68 points. Volume fell to 40.19 million shares, compared with 67.39 million shares traded on Friday. [.KA] * The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $1.92 million on Monday. * An upbeat outlook from FedEx, coupled with encouraging home sales, lifted U.S. stocks on Monday, keeping the S&P 500 above 1,100 for a second day and suggesting the rally could last. The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 100.81 points, or 0.97 percent, to 10,525.43. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 12.35 points, or 1.12 percent, to 1,115.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> advanced 26.96 points, or 1.19 percent, to close at 2,296.43. [.N] * U.S. crude futures were steady at nearly $79 a barrel on Tuesday as traders eyed oil inventory data due in the next two days, which is expected to show a decline in U.S. crude inventories and rises in gasoline and distillate stocks.
