HONOLULU - Conservative U.S. radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was resting comfortably at a hospital in Hawaii on Wednesday after suffering chest pains, his website said.

Local KITV television, citing unnamed sources, said earlier that Limbaugh, 58, was in serious condition at Honolulu's Queen's Medical Center after being treated at a hotel by paramedics.

Limbaugh's website, RushLimbaugh.com, said, "Rush was admitted to a Honolulu hospital today and is resting comfortably after suffering chest pains."

It added that further updates would be provided on the website and his radio program on Thursday.

Hospital administration coordinator Wendy Rogers told Reuters she could not comment due to patient confidentiality rules.

Limbaugh, a popular but controversial voice in American politics, was vacationing in Hawaii at the same time as Democratic President Barack Obama and his family.

Limbaugh has been a leading critic of Obama, saying earlier this year he wanted the president to fail "if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation."

That prompted White House officials to fire back, calling Limbaugh the new face of the Republican Party.

Limbaugh's popular talk radio program is broadcast over 600 stations nationwide and is known for lambasting Democratic policies and politicians.

He has experienced other medical problems in the past decade, including a loss of hearing reversed by a cochlear, or electronic hearing device, implant, and an addiction to painkillers.
