Coal Valley, IL (AHN) - Nearly 96,000 pounds of ground beef products have been recalled by a meatpacker in Illinois after it was blamed for sickening consumers in the state, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Friday.
Valley Meats LLC of Coal Valley issued the recall Wednesday of ground beef produced in March and sold in 10-pound and 40-pound packages. The products labeled Grillmaster, J&B, Thick'N Savory, 3S, Klub and Ultimate bear the establishment number "EST. 5712" inside the USDA's inspection mark.
The Valley Meats beef is suspected of causing a cluster of E. Coli illnesses in Ohio, the USDA said, according to the Dailyherald.com. The agency did not provide the number of victims of the bacteria poisoning.
E. Coli infection causes bloody stools and dehydration. The bacteria usually infects old and very young people who have weak immune systems.
