Wildfire rages in northeastern Spanish
AFP - Sunday, August 16
MADRID (AFP) - - Dozens of firefighters battled a raging wildfire in northeastern Spain Saturday as authorities ordered local residents stay indoors and closed a main road, local official said.

The firefighters were backed by 17 water-dropping aircraft in battling the blaze near the village of Montferri which has destroyed at least 80 hectares (200 acres) of pine trees, vineyard and scrubland.
Officials evacuated three farms and ordered the roughly 350 residents of Montferri to stay indoors as a precaution while a key regional road was closed in the area because of the risk from the flames and smoke.
The cause of the fire, which erupted on Saturday afternoon amid scorching temperatures, is under investigation.
Wildires have ravaged some 75,000 hectares of land in Spain since the start of the year, almost double the number for the whole of 2008.
