LOS ANGELES - Chris Brown's father says the R & B star is remorseful following his arrest on suspicion of attacking a woman widely believed to be pop star Rihanna, People magazine reported on its Web site on Friday. Clinton Brown, who lives in Toppahannock, Virginia, told the magazine his son is "home" but would not give a location.
Peruvian film "The Milk of Sorrow" wins in Berlin
BERLIN won the coveted Golden Bear award for best picture at the Berlin film festival on Saturday. The first Peruvian film in competition at the annual cinema showcase, the story revolves around Fausta, the product of a rape inflicted on her mother during two decades of rebel violence in which around 70,000 people died or disappeared.
Calif. court denies appeal in actors contract talks
LOS ANGELES - A California appeals court on Friday denied an attempt by the president of the largest U.S. actors union to block upcoming contract negotiations with Hollywood's major studios. Alan Rosenberg, president of the Screen Actors Guild, earlier this month sought a court-ordered injunction to block a new SAG negotiating task force -- put in place by the union's national governing board -- from resuming long-stalled labor talks with Hollywood's major studios.
Martin laughs off criticism of "Pink Panther 2"
BERLIN - Actor Steve Martin on Friday dismissed poor reviews of the latest Pink Panther movie saying critics are always snobs when it comes to comedy. "I have received bad reviews my whole life," Martin said as he presented "Pink Panther 2" at the Berlin film festival, his second turn as bungling French detective Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a role made famous by Peter Sellers.
Nude Madonna photo sells for $37,500 at auction
LOS ANGELES - A full frontal nude photo of Madonna, taken in 1979 before she became famous, has sold at auction for $37,500 -- more than double its pre-sale estimate. The black and white photo of the pop music superstar, aged 20, was acquired by an unnamed European buyer at Christie's in New York late on Thursday.
Peter Gabriel spurns Oscars over downsized set
LOS ANGELES - Peter Gabriel has rejected an offer to perform at the Academy Awards next week after the veteran British rocker learned he would have just a minute to sing his Oscar-nominated tune from Disney's "WALL-E". Gabriel and composer Thomas Newman will compete for the best song Oscar on February 22 with "Down To Earth," a tune from the hit Pixar cartoon. The other two nominees are a pair of compositions from "Slumdog Millionaire."

Isla Fisher buys into comedy for "Shopaholic"
NEW YORK - Australian Isla Fisher was about to pack it in as an actress until her boyfriend, best known as Borat, said she should try comedy. After 15 years acting in serious roles in two Australian soap operas, smaller parts in British and American television and movies, and one German horror film, she said Sacha Baron Cohen's suggestion was a revelation. And it worked.
"Dreamgirl" Hudson dominates NAACP Image awards
LOS ANGELES - Actress and singer Jennifer Hudson dominated the NAACP Image awards on Thursday, giving her a boost for 2009 after her mother, brother and nephew were killed by an estranged brother-in-law four months ago. However two nominees, R&B singer Chris Brown and girlfriend Rihanna, stayed away from the star-studded ceremony following Brown's arrest earlier this week on charges of making criminal threats on an unidentified woman, widely reported to be his girlfriend Rihanna.
Chicago museum reveals lively and grim Edvard Munch
CHICAGO - Edvard Munch's 1893 painting, "The Scream," has come to symbolize the anxiety of modern life, and the artist himself was frequently cast as insanely preoccupied by death, sickness and longing. At times, Norway's greatest artist lived up to the neurotic, tortured characterization and exhibited works that scandalized critics.
