Myanmar makes diplomatic ties with Andorra: state media
AFP - 2 hours 23 minutes ago
YANGON (AFP) - - Military ruled Myanmar has launched diplomatic relations with the world's sixth smallest nation, Andorra, its state media reported Sunday.

The New Light of Myanmar said the Southeast Asian nation would seek bilateral cooperation with the principality of Andorra, a small landlocked country between Spain and France in Western Europe.
"The (countries), desirous of establishing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations decided to establish diplomatic relations," the paper reported.
Ambassadors have been appointed with effect from February 11, it added, saying the deal had been signed at UN headquarters on Wednesday.
Myanmar, which has been ruled by the military since 1962, has diplomatic relations with about 80 countries.
Myanmar is currently under strict sanctions by the United States and European Union because of its oft-criticised human rights record and continued detention of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung San Suu Kyi's party, the National League for Democracy, won a landslide victory in 1990 elections but the ruling junta never allowed it to take office.
