ShareThis April 27, 2010 9:49 p.m. EST Topics: World, employment, health, medical staff, curiosity, offbeat, labor, human interest Windsor Genova - AHN News News Writer London, United Kingdom (AHN) - Britain’s General Medical Council (GMC) has banished a doctor who surgically removed part of a patient’s testicle instead of a cyst and then took a sedative drug intended for a patient while on duty. In a hearing, the panel decided not to allow Dr. Sulieman Ahmad Sulieman Al Hourani to practice in the U.K. because of the danger he poses to patients. Hourani did not attend the hearing as he had fled Britain to his native Jordan following the incident. The GMC found Hourani guilty of misconduct and reckless disregard for patient safety when in September 2007, he operated on a patient at the Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester to remove an epididymal cyst. He removed the whole right testicle of the patient instead of the cyst. In August 2006, Hourani injected himself with two milligrams of midazolam meant for a patient. Staff saw him unsteady on his feet and later found him deeply asleep in the doctors’ mess room. He was given a final warning but committed another misconduct by stealing two boxes of the pain relief drug dihydrocodeine from the hospital in October 2007. The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust then finally dismissed him from his job.
