Vancouver, Canada (AHN) - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced in a press conference on Thursday the seizure of $220,000 counterfeit American and Canadian banknotes in British Columbia.
The heist is considered the biggest amount of fake money in British Columbia's history.
The fake currency were discovered at a residence on 151B Avenue in Surrey. It was the result of RCMP surveillance since November. The spurious currency was broken down into $96,000 fake U.S. banknotes and $130,000 fake Canadian money in $50 and $100 bills.
Aside from the fake currency, the RCMP confiscated computers and other equipment used for producing the counterfeit dollars.
The RCMP arrested 30-year old Richard Thomas McGaw from Coquitlam and 49-year old Jesko Stefan Lindt from Surrey. They were charged with making and possessing fake banknotes and possession of instruments for making counterfeit money. Lindt posted bail, while McGaw is still in the RCMP's custody.
