(AHN) - A 25-year-old Missouri woman became the first female U.S. Air Force Academy graduate to die in combat in either Iraq or Afghanistan. First Lt. Roslyn L. Schulte was killed Wednesday near Kabul, Afghanistan from wounds she suffered from a roadside bomb attack. Schulte was assigned to the 613th Air and Space Operations Center. She was an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations officer. She was deployed to Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. The attack happened as she was travelling to an intelligence-sharing conference at Bagram Airfield from Camp Eggers in Kabul, according to an Air Force press release. "Losing Lieutenant Schulte has been a tragedy felt by everyone here and across the Air Force," Col. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, 613th AOC commander, said in a statement. "Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with the family of this heroic Airman. She was taken from us while serving her nation honorably, and the Airmen of the 613th Air and Space Operations Center will forever be proud of her." Schulte was a 2006 graduate of the Air Force Academy. She was the 10th Air Force Academy graduate to be killed in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Susie Schulte, and her brother, Todd Schulte, who all live in St Louis, Mo., according to the press release.
