NEW YORK (AFP) - – US videogame giant Electronic Arts posted a quarterly net profit on Tuesday, snapping its losing streak of 12 consecutive quarters in the red.

The Redwood City, California-based company behind the "Sims," "Madden" and other hit games reported a fourth-quarter net profit of 30 million dollars compared with a net loss of 42 million dollars in the same quarter a year ago.

Revenue was up 14 percent in the quarter which ended on March 31 at 979 million dollars, better than forecast by Wall Street analysts.

EA said sales were driven by "Battlefield: Bad Company 2," which has sold five million units, "Mass Effect 2" and "Dante's Inferno."

"We had an excellent fourth quarter," EA chief executive John Riccitiello said in a statement.

"'Battlefield: Bad Company 2' outperformed, which contributed to revenue at the high end of our guidance range, and we exceeded our expectations on the bottom line," he said.

EA said it expected revenue of between 710 million dollars and 750 million dollars in the current quarter.

The cautious outlook sent EA shares down four percent in after-hours electronic trading to 18.05 dollars.
