ShareThis January 23, 2010 11:17 a.m. EST Topics: United States, Offbeat, Human Interest Windsor Genova - AHN News Writer New York, NY, United States (AHN) - Two Bronx men jailed for nearly a week for possession of cocaine that turned out to be just coconut candies are planning to sue the New York Police Department for their wrongful arrest and detention. They are seeking $2 million in damage. Police arrested plumber Jose Pena, 48, and his friend Cesar Rodriguez, 33 at a warehouse on 181st Street and the Grand Concourse on Jan. 15 after finding the cocaine-looking, crystalline candies inside a sandwich bag inside their van. The police immediately handcuffed the two despite their protest and locked them in jail. Tests of the candies later indicate they are not cocaine and the police dropped charges against the two. Pena was released on Sunday after arraignment while Rodriguez was freed Thursday, according to their lawyers. It was Rodriguez who eats the candy and he doesn't plan to quit his habit after the incident.
