Joran Van der Sloot, 22, told officials that on May 30 he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez in his hotel room here in a fit of rage after she used his laptop without permission, a police source told local media. "I did not want to do it," Van der Sloot said, according to the source. "The girl intruded into my private life." Van der Sloot remains the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, an 18-year-old American student who was visiting the Caribbean tourist island of Aruba to celebrate her high school graduation. In that case, Van der Sloot was twice arrested and spent three months in jail but was never charged. Holloway's body has never been found. Following his confession to killing Flores, "at this time a reconstruction of the event is being coordinated between the prosecution and police," and Van der Sloot "will be taken to the hotel where the murder occurred," a national police official told AFP on condition of anonymity. In quotes released by Peru's authorities, the Dutchman admitted to breaking Flores's neck after she learned he was linked to Holloway's murder. "She had no right" to see the laptop, Van der Sloot said, according to the police source. "I approached her, she was frightened. We discussed it and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her." Attorney Luis Lamas Puccio told AFP that the Dutchman's confession shortens a trial that might otherwise have been spread over three years. "Having acknowledged his crime, the trial should go very quickly," Lamas Puccio said. Hotel surveillance camera footage, aired on televisions around the world, showed Van der Sloot entering his hotel room in an upmarket part of Lima with Flores after the two spent time together gambling at a casino. It was the last time she was seen alive. Later footage shows Van der Sloot leaving the room alone. He left Lima the next day for Chile in a 1,300-kilometer (800-mile), 620-dollar taxi ride to the border, investigators said. Van der Sloot was arrested in Chile and promptly extradited to Peru on Friday. If convicted, Van der Sloot would likely receive "a sentence of between 15 and 35 years" in prison, the attorney said. Holloway's father, Dave Holloway, told the ABC news network Tuesday that searchers were ready in Aruba to act on any information about his daughter's case gleaned in the Peruvian investigation. "He's confessed to this one," Holloway said of Flores's death, "and I'd like for him to tell everyone what happened." "I would just like to say that you know all the pain and suffering that we've gone through, hopefully justice is served this time," he said. Holloway's disappearance captured the media spotlight in the United States and Aruba for months after she went missing. Her parents spoke frequently with reporters and sought to keep attention on the pretty blonde student to resolve the mystery of her disappearance. They distributed fliers with her picture all over the island and offered a reward of 10,000 dollars for information on her whereabouts. Holloway never returned from a night out with friends hours before she was to fly home to Alabama. Police found her packed suitcase, cell phone and passport by the door of her hotel room. Three years later, Van der Sloot, the son of a prominent judge, was videotaped telling a friend Holloway died suddenly while they were making out on the beach. He said she had been drinking a lot and might have been doing drugs. "We were on the beach and suddenly she didn't do anything any more ... she was shaking and then: nothing," he is seen saying in a secret taping of a conversation with a friend. In a panic Van der Sloot says in the recording he called a friend who helped him to dispose of her body by dumping it in the sea. Later he said he was just telling his friend what he wanted to hear.
