State prosecutors said the student, who severely injured two girls at the Carolinum secondary school in the southern town of Ansbach Thursday, had been planning the attack for months and scheduled it into his diary with the words "Apocalypse today." "He described his motivation as being his hatred of humanity in general, and in particular of school," prosecutor Gudrun Lehnberger told a news conference, referring to texts that were found on the student's laptop. "He said he felt unfairly treated at school and in society, he felt alienated and undervalued," she said. The teen-ager -- armed with an axe, knives and five petrol bombs -- hurled the firebombs into two classrooms and down a staircase at the school. He attacked students as they tried to flee the burning building. Police officers shot him three times when he threatened them with a knife. The man's state was still too critical for him to be issued with an arrest warrant, police said. Lehnberger said he wrote letters on his laptop, explaining his motives and how he would carry out the attack. He said he was unable to get a girlfriend and he was haunted by the memory of no one standing up for him when he was beaten up on a school bus. It was the latest in a spate of German school attacks. In March, a 17-year-old killed 15 people in a shooting spree at his former school in Winnenden before shooting himself. In 2006, a masked man armed with rifles and explosives attacked a school in Emsdetten, wounding 11 before killing himself. Based on information found in the laptop of the student who perpetrated the Ansbach attack, he was influenced by Germany's worst school shooting in April 2002 when a gunman killed 17 people, including himself, at a school in Erfurt.
