The event was marked with impressive star performances, A-list celebrities and some pre-ceremony drama that involved Rihanna and Chris Brown. Coldplay led the way for British bands at this year's Grammy Awards with "Viva La Vida" bagging song of the year and the album from which it was taken, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, getting the best rock album award. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss grabbed five Grammys, including the night's biggest award, Album of the Year for Raising Sand. The Led Zeppelin frontman and bluegrass singer also won Record of the Year for Please Read the Letter and Best Pop Collaboration for "Rich Woman," both tracks from the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana-winning album Raising Sand. British act Radiohead was among the early winners at the 51st awards, picking up two awards for their album In Rainbows for best boxed or special limited edition album. It was quickly followed by another for best alternative music album. Jennifer Hudson was presented an award for best R&B album. The singer just returned to performing following the murder of her mother, brother and nephew last October. British artists continued to dominate the night's biggest awards with 20-year-old Adele taking home the best new artist title. Last year, another Londoner Amy Winehouse was given the honor. Lil Wayne took home four awards namely Best Rap Album for Tha Carter III, but also Best Rap Song for "Lollipop," Best Rap Solo Performance for "A Milli" and his verse on "Swagga Like Us" scored him a Best Rap Performance By A Group Grammy. Irish rockers U2 got the main ceremony off to a spectacular start with a version of new song "Get On Your Boots." After Chris Brown and Rihanna dropped out of the show due to the alleged drama involving Brown being booked for domestic violence, Al Green, Justin Timberlake, Boyz II Men and Keith Urban filled in for them. Coldplay's Chris Martin performed Viva's "Lost!" with a cameo by Jay-Z while other performers included Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Kid Rock, Katy Perry and Kenny Chesney among many others.
