Elisa Baker, the stepmother of 10-year-old Zahra Baker, is accused of marrying the girl’s father before she was divorced from her previous husband, according to a Catawaba County court official Tuesday. Zahra made headlines when she went missing from her home in Hickory. The girl lost part of her left leg at age 5 and lost her hearing while being treated for cancer. Police found her remains Nov. 11, a little over a month after being reported missing. The stepmother was charged with obstruction of justice after admitting to planting a fake ransom note, reports stated. According to documents, Elisa told police the girl was killed two weeks before she went missing. She said the body was dismembered and disposed of in numerous locations. A search warrant dated Oct. 27 showed authorities were looking for latex gloves used to dismember Zahra’s body and trash bags used to store the remains.
